It's all connected

It's funny how everything comes back on itself. I'm reading Three Cups of Tea and descriptions of how educating girls in one of the most remote, most deprived, most volatile areas of the world. "Dr. Greg" built schools by building relationships before initiating partnerships. In my experience with community based research and program development the outsider has to become a partner, not a manager to be most successful. Two essential lessons can be distilled which may be useful going into these meetings at UNESCO:
1. Start from where you are - you may not be detained by rogue factions in Waziristan but it's perfectly fine to build on whatever kernel of an idea, whatever small success or history you have.
2. Take small steps - accomplish what you can with what you have. Forging new relationships and broadening or deepening your goals can be incremental.
